Bobblehead Want List - October 2020, Part 2

The second installment of my current wish list includes a group of five that are at the lower end of the price continuum and ones that I will likely acquire sooner.

The next five bobbleheads on my current list of 25 are:

  • Jake Arrieta - This was a 2016 Wrigley Field giveaway honoring his Cy Young Award. This price has come down as he has left Chicago and isn't as dominant as he was while he was there. There are usually a few available in the $17-25 dollar range. Good likeness.
  • Bert Campaneris - This was given out in Oakland in 2019. This is one that I was waiting on and look forward to adding. I love the old A's yellow jersey and it is a reasonably solid likeness. Would have preferred him with the glove, but he was speedy so the running pose works for me. They are available in the $10-20 range.
  • Max Scherzer - Another Cy Young bobble, given away at a Nationals game in 2017. It shows him with his two Cy Youngs. Not overly expensive as the Nats have done multiple Scherzer SGAs. Available in the $17-25 range. I have always liked him as a pitcher, especially since he's out of the AL Central.
  • Joe Tinker - These were given out at Wrigley Field in 2014 as part of the 100 year anniversary of the park. Tinker is known more for his place in the famous poem than for his play, but he is a Hall of Famer. I like the old school uniform and that it depicts him as a member of the Federal League Chicago Whales because his years with the Cubs were before Wrigley opened.
  • Matt Chapman - It is hard for me to pass up A's bobbleheads because I love their uniforms. This one features their green jerseys, and as the curved base shows, is meant to be placed together with the Matt Olson piece that I already have. Many people probably don't know that Chapman backed up Nolan Arenado on their high school team before taking over for him at shortstop when Arenado graduated.
The good news on these five is that all are within reach price-wise. I am trying to be judicious in jumping at them because the shipping costs can push them up in overall price. That said, These five are probably among the next pieces I will add.

 Negro League Team Bobbleheads

For those that have never been to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame, please accept my recommendation that it is worth the trip.  The Museum is located in Kansas City, Missouri and is every bit a first class venue.  The memorabilia is wonderful and the historical information very interesting.

I was able to visit there a few years ago and will likely visit again.  For those that love jazz music, there is also a jazz museum in the same building.

As I have become interested in getting well done "vintage boy" bobbleheads from MLB teams, I was thrilled to find the the Negro Leagues Museum also sells team bobbleheads from seventeen negro league teams.  They are available as a set or as individual pieces. The individual pieces are $25 each which is a very good asking price.

I expect to add these, although likely one at a time, as the full set is $359 (which includes 16 of the 17). The full set comes with gold bases rather than green.

Bobblehead Want List - October 2020, Part 1

My first installment of attempting to make this look presentable will be to highlight the first five bobbleheads that are on my current wish list.

The first five current items on my Wish List:

  • Boog Powell - This was sold or given away by the Red Cross in Baltimore in 2007. Prices online range from $499-$729.  Way out of my price range unless I happen upon one randomly that isn't "market priced". I always liked Powell as a player and the chef's hat, a tribute to his Camden Yards barbeque food stand is very cool.
  • Lefty O'Doul - San Francisco Giants SGA (2008). Depicts O'Doul on a shamrock and wearing the old San Francisco Seals uniform from the old PCL. Lefty was a beloved SF baseball guy that helped mentor Joe DiMaggio and bring baseball to Japan. Price including shipping starting at about $60.  That's getting close to my range for this one.
  • Carlos May - Chicago White Sox Fantasy Camp (2006). I don't currently see one for sale, but when they have been they are out of my range ($150+).  That said, May was a favorite of mine as a kid because for some reason I really liked his 1970 Topps card (below).  This bobblehead is of particular interest to me for three other reasons.  First, I loved the White Sox red pinstriped uniforms, May lost part of his thumb in an accident in reserve military training (protecting us...thank you) and third because the bobblehead looks like Chris Rock to me.

  • Rogers Hornsby - Cardinals Hall of Fame Bobblehead. Not quite sure about the pedigree on this one, but it appears to have been a limited edition sold at/by the Cardinals Hall of Fame. A neat place that my son and I visited last fall. Only current one on Ebay is $115, but there are recently sold pieces that have gone from $65-$120 including shipping.  I am sitting just below that bottom of this range, so I am hopeful I will find one. Obviously, one of the all-time greats and in a sold old-school, pre batting helmet uniform.
  • Bill Melton - 2004 White Sox Fantasy Camp. Another piece that I last saw in the $200 range so nothing I am going to own soon.  That said, I liked Melton as a player, its a pretty decent facial likeness, a unique pose and the red ChiSox uniform.

Beginning today, I am going to attempt to put some extra effort into publishing my list and finding ways to make both the list and my existing collection more interesting. Not that I am expecting an audience, but because it is useful to learn to better use the tools of blogging.

So, in hopes that this is my final boring post, I am updating my Top 25 want list to a current state:
